About Build4Life – Cystic Fibrosis

Build4LifeFormed in 2007, Build4Life is a voluntary registered charity which raises funds for all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis care in Cork University Hospital (CUH). The development of these life saving adult isolated inpatient rooms was the reason our charity was formed in 2007. This ward has been funded by our charity at a cost of €2,300,000.00
Thanks to all who supported us over the years, it really is greatly appreciated.

We are informed that the construction of 2 new floors to the children’s unit in Cork University Hospital will begin shortly. These 2 floors will be built on top of the existing children’s unit. The new 1st floor will be a day/outpatient unit and the 2nd floor will have offices and academic/teaching facilities for staff training.

All of the existing children’s unit will be evacuated to different areas of the hospital. Some of the inpatients including CF will be accommodated in Ward 5A, a multi bed ward on the top floor of the main hospital. Outpatient facilities for children with CF will be on the new pod type building over the clinic’s at the entrance to the A&E.

The new construction of the children’s unit will see the new children’s CF outpatient clinic built which is being funded by our charity and is expected to take 18 months to complete. There are currently no concrete plans to refurbish/redevelop the children’s inpatient beds in CUH so unfortunately we can only inform you that the hospital has applied for funding.

Over the last 4 years Build4Life has repeatedly offered to fund the isolated inpatient beds for children with CF in CUH adjacent to the existing building and while the hospital wants our money they are still undecided as to where the beds will be.

We are currently fundraising for the final part of our journey which is the construction of the children’s isolated inpatient bedrooms which our children so desperately need to keep the free from cross infection which will allow them to live longer and healthier lives.

Please help us help our children by organising a fundraising event to benefit our charity and you will help to save the life of a child with Cystic Fibrosis attending Cork University Hospital.
We are the only charity funding these life saving facilities.
Thanks so much to you all.
